Reno Rain Does Dampen Street Vibrations

Although the Reno Gazette Journal declared "Rain Doesn't Wash Out Street Vibrations" the word from Virginia City was just the opposite. A few bar owners said they did only 10% of the business they did last year, blaming the inclement weather for keeping bikers from going up the hill.

But then the RGJ had fun with the event all week with articles on how to be a biker, how to talk like a biker and the requisite biker chicks.

And while bikers were still impressed with the event, that wasn't a feeling shared by everyone.

Street Vibrations Set To Rumble and Spend in Reno

I think one of the dirty little secrets in Reno's tourism trade is the fact that the much heralded Hot August Nights car show isn't the event the actual workers look forward to most. Hands down, it seems, is Street Vibrations and the thousands of motorcycles that rumble into town.

Whether it's Virginia City's Washoe Club bar or some of our favorite restaurants in Reno, they all agree Harley-Davidson riders are far more generous, both in spending and tipping, than the classic car crowd. In fact, Street Vibrations is the number one weekend of the year for the Washoe Club.

This year's event will start September 19 and run through the 23rd. On tap is the always-popular Tattoo Expo, Dyno Drags, stunt shows, custom shows, poker runs, concerts and, new this year, all-girl roller derby featuring Reno's own Battle Born Derby Demons.

How To Get A Free Accelerade Sports Drink Coupon

Mott's Accelerade is joining the crowded sports drink market with a bang. They were offering our readers a coupon for a free sample while they last. Unfortunately the referral spot tends to come and go, so you may have to search for it a little. Basically it is a 2-for-1 special.

Accelerade is trying to distinguish themselves from the rest on two fronts -- protein and high fructose corn syrup. For the former, they are about the only sports drink out there with protein in it (4 grams). Whether or not that really matters is up in the air, but by eschewing the use of cheap corn syrup for their sweetener they do get an important leg up on the competition. Of course with ethanol driving up corn prices, maybe makers will go back to sugar.

For Northern Nevada's hot summers and dry winters, Accelerade could find a spot in many a Reno refrigerator.
